VIDEO: Learning Life Skills Through 4-H

He’s only 6 years old, but he’s learning how to be responsible for other lives – mainly those of goats.

Thomas is a 4-H participant. He showed his goat this summer at the San Diego County Fair and has learned a lot about pygmy goats.

But 4-H, which is a partnership between the County and the University of California, is more than just showing off animal farms at the fair. It’s a development program where youth design and participate in their own programs and activities. It teaches essential skills that youth will use throughout their lives – desiring knowledge, setting goals, self-reflection, adapting to new situations, communicating and responding to the needs of others.
