Residents of several San Diego County communities have a chance Tuesday night to join with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department in getting to know their neighbors and learning how they can help reduce crime in their neighborhoods.
It’s the annual National Night Out Against Crime and the Sheriff’s Department will be hosting events in 12 different communities across the county.
The activities vary by location but residents will get a chance to meet their local Sheriff’s deputies and learn from displays from the Sheriff’s Department’s bomb/arson unit, crime lab, weapons training unit, mounted patrol, search and rescue K-9 unit and SED/SWAT. At many locations there will also be ASTREA helicopter flyovers and a chance to meet McGruff the Crime Dog.
Some locations are also providing free food, drinks, child fingerprinting and giveaways for children.
Local fire departments, the California Highway Patrol, community groups, the Senior Volunteer Patrol and other County of San Diego departments will be also be participating at some locations.

If you can’t make it to an event, you are encouraged to leave your front door or porch light on as a show of support for the event.
