Palomar Airport Crash Statement

[UPDATE] 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19: The airport runway is now open.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. a helicopter crashed on the runway at the McClellan-Palomar Airport.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. a helicopter crashed on the runway at the McClellan-Palomar Airport.

The Airport’s fire suppression unit responded, in addition to the Carlsbad Fire Department, and extinguished the fire. The Airport is closed until further notice. There were two individuals on board, and two fatalities.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is en route and will conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash. We are unable to release details as to the specific type of aircraft or the identities of the passengers at this time.
