Officials and Community Members Come Together To Kick-Off Domestic Violence Awareness Month

College and university students, officials, community members, criminal justice, domestic violence and social service agencies came together to provide community education and awareness on domestic violence.

In 2015, there were 17,975 domestic violence incidents reported to law enforcement in San Diego County, a 6 percent increase from the prior year and up 12 percent from 2011.

In that same year, there were also 16 domestic violence homicide victims of which the suspect was a current or former intimate partner. There were an additional two homicide victims (family members) that died during these domestic violence incidents and eight offenders died by suicide.
