Property Tax Relief on the Way

Reading Time: < 1 minute

County officials will soon drop nearly 2,000 property tax refunds in the mail.

San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced Thursday that his office planned to mail the checks, which total $1.28 million, to property owners across the County.

Why so many? When a property changes hands, the County reassesses its value. Over the past six to eight months, these assessments have lowered many property values.

On their way to property owners are checks ranging from $11 to $5,183. The average refund is estimated at $646.

So far this year, McAllister said his office will have mailed out 17,557 refunds valued at about $9.47 million.

“It is our goal to send these refunds out as soon as we process them,” he said.
