The risk of an opioid overdose has increased significantly with the surge in illicit fentanyl. Naloxone (Narcan) is a medicine that reverses an opioid overdose and restores breathing that has slowed or stopped. When used quickly, it saves lives. The County is distributing naloxone widely as a key part of its overall harm reduction strategy. Quick action by a friend, loved one, or bystander can mean life for someone otherwise facing certain death.

Public Health Nurse, Andrea Huerta, was working with a homeless outreach team when she suddenly needed Naloxone and became that lifeline for someone in crisis.
