The County has a new, groundbreaking resource to battle fatal opioid overdoses. A naloxone vending machine is now in operation at the McAlister South Bay Regional Recovery Center in Chula Vista and you don’t have to be a member of the Center to use it.

A total of 722 San Diegans died because of meth and another 576 people died due to prescription drugs in the region last year, the Methamphetamine Strike Force and Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force announced today.

Since the onset of the COVID pandemic, rates of drug related overdose deaths in San Diego County have increased. In July and August numbers of overdose deaths were more than 50% higher than in February and March of 2020, with an average of about three people dying per day in the County.
