A new affordable housing community for older adults has opened on South Santa Fe Avenue in North County. La Sábila, located just outside the City of Vista in unincorporated San Diego County, offers 85 affordable apartments for residents ages 55 and older.

The $48.5 million development includes 42 units reserved for adults 62 and up who are exiting homelessness. Those units are supported through the County of San Diego’s Project-Based Voucher program for very low-income seniors.

La Sábila residents also have access to onsite health and wellness services provided by the County and West PACE. These services are designed to help older adults remain safe, healthy, and independent.

Developed by Wakeland Housing, La Sábila is the result of a public-private partnership. The County invested $10.8 million in the project, provided 42 Project-Based Vouchers through the housing authority, and committed 20 years of supportive services.

La Sábila sits on 5.5 acres and features a two-story, U-shaped building connected by walkways and shared open spaces. A central courtyard with outdoor seating serves as a gathering space for residents. The property is pedestrian-friendly and designed for easy accessibility for people with varying mobility needs.

Each apartment includes full-size appliances and an electric range. Residential amenities include a shared lounge area, community room, laundry room, and garden.

Affordable homes are available now at La Sabila for seniors who qualify. More information is available on LaSabilaApts.com.

Since 2017, the County of San Diego has invested more than $334 million in affordable housing through excess County land, the Innovative Housing Trust Fund and other state, federal, and local sources. These investments have created more than 3,445 homes, with another 2,610 currently in development.

More information about the County’s housing initiatives is available through the County’s Housing Hub.
