Senior Nutrition Program Teams Up with Natural Foods Store

Jimbo’s…Naturally!, a local organic and natural foods market, is partnering with San Diego County’s More on the Menu (MOM) program to help raise money to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to homebound seniors.

During a special MOM campaign Dec. 3-16, each Jimbo’s store will display MOM posters encouraging customers to support the program. Jimbo’s will also be including MOM promotions in its newsletter and on its website. Jimbo’s has locations in Carlsbad, Carmel Valley/Del Mar, Escondido and 4S Ranch.

“We appreciate businesses like Jimbo’s that step up to the plate to help our neediest seniors,” said Chairman Ron Roberts, San Diego County Board of Supervisors. “This is a great partnership between Jimbo’s and MOM, and we’d encourage other local businesses to consider doing the same.”

More on the Menu is part of the County’s effort to ensure that residents of all ages have access to a healthy diet. Participating older adults receive a weekly delivery of fresh produce.

“The MOM program is an excellent example of a program that benefits older adults and gives them access to nutritious food,” said Nick Macchione, director, San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. “The collaboration with Jimbo’s will allow us to provide more seniors with healthy fruits and vegetables.”

“Our mission at Jimbo’s is to do the right thing by providing high quality organic and natural foods to our customers and this just seemed like a great opportunity to extend that mission into the community,” said Jimbo’s owner, Jim “Jimbo” Someck. “We’re very supportive of the County’s Live Well, San Diego! initiative and we’re happy to give our customers the encouragement to donate to such a worthwhile program.”

More on the Menu is funded completely by community donations. All donations go directly for the purchase and delivery of fresh produce. The program now serves approximately 240 homebound seniors and will continue to grow as more funding is received.
