Sewage Spills in San Marcos

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A sewage spill in San Marcos resulted in a water contact closure for San Marcos Creek near La Costa County Club Golf Course on Wednesday.

The County Department of Environmental Health estimated 1,950 gallons of sewage spilled at Redwing Street when a sewer main leaked. Approximate 825 gallons of the 1,950 gallons was recovered, but the rest entered a storm drain that discharges into the San Marcos Creek.

Sewage contamination signs were posted at the golf course at access points along the creek. Signs will remain in place until water samples confirm the water is no longer impacted.
