The number of San Diego deaths by suicide continue to decline for the fourth year in a row, according to a new annual report by the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council. Suicides decreased from a high of 465 in 2018 down to 364 in 2021.

The findings were shared today at a press conference with Board of Supervisors Chair Nathan Fletcher, County Behavioral Health Director, Luke Bergmann, SPC Specialist Stan Collins and other community, education, and health professionals.

While fewer deaths by suicide in our community is encouraging news, emergency department visits for self-inflicted injuries are on the rise. Suicide can be prevented. Learn to recognize the signs, talk openly about suicide, and reach out for resources and support. If you are struggling, you are not alone. It’s ok to ask for help.
