County Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to spend up to $740,000 to do preventive maintenance work on bridges in Descanso, Jacumba, and Lake Wohlford Road near Escondido.
The Board’s vote authorizes the County Department of Public Works to start the bid process to find companies to do the work, which will include patching and sealing roadways, restoring concrete areas that have broken up, flaked or become pitted by water, filling cracked concrete and replacing pavement.
Roughly $672,000 of the funding will come from a special federal fund; the remainder will come from the public works department’s budget.
Two of the four bridges are in Jacumba, near the U.S.-Mexico border and Imperial County, on Old Highway 80: the Boundary Creek Bridge and the bridge over the San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railroad. The third bridge is on Los Terrinitos over Sweetwater River in Descanso in the Cleveland National Forest. The fourth is on Lake Wohlford Road over Escondido Creek near Escondido.
