“Take Me Out to the Library”

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Dozens of children showed up at the Lemon Grove Library to hear Padres catcher Nick Hundley read “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and sign autographs.
The Padre Friar was also there Tuesday to show support for reading and the San Diego County Library system. The Padres, along with Ashford College, donated $1,000 to kick off the library’s matching funds program, where donations are matched dollar for dollar by funding from the library budget. The money is spent on acquiring new books, movies and music.

“We’re honored to be receiving a donation from the San Diego Padres and Ashford University,” said Library Director Jose Aponte. “Their devotion to literacy is admirable, and this event commemorates a wonderful partnership.”

The Padres and Ashford College sponsor a “Reading Corner” program that sends players out into the community to read to children and encourage them to read on their own.
