Monitoring and responding to potential public health threats is a priority for San Diego County Public Health Services. Recently, County Public Health workers and Father Joe’s Villages teamed up to test people experiencing homelessness for possible exposure to tuberculosis. Several screening events downtown provided compassionate outreach, education and TB testing. Tuberculosis is a serious illness that usually targets the lungs. It is spread by airborne bacteria, making people who live in a shelter more vulnerable to infection.
