Some have been clean for weeks; some for months and years.
Hundreds of people in recovery got together this weekend to celebrate their sobriety and their new, drug-free lives at an annual event sponsored by the County and its treatment partners.
We spoke with several of them. They talked about how long they’ve been clean, what was their drug of choice and the reason why they quit drugs.
Name: Salina Galindo. Clean: 4 months. Drug of choice: Meth. Why you quit: “I was in and out of prison for drug-related crimes. I got tired of robbing to feed my addiction. I wanted to change my life.”
Name: Sara Hines. Clean: 80 days. Drug of choice: Meth. Why you quit: “Meth completely ran my life. I lost my family and friends. I lost everything before I had anything. I am young and have my whole life ahead of me.”
Name: Bridget Johnson. Clean: 30 days. Drug of choice: Crack cocaine. Why you quit: “I was just tired of the lifestyle, the separation from reality. I can see things clear. Now I am having a real life.”
Name: Walter Sayers. Clean: 4 years. Drug of choice: Meth. Why you quit: “I got tired of losing my jobs and being homeless. I had enough of that. I got my life together. Volunteering and being a part of the sober community really changed my life.”
