It’s not just for young adults anymore.
Thanks to book series like “The Hunger Games”, “Harry Potter” and “Twilight”, more adults than ever are reading young adult literature and have helped make it the fastest growing genre in the literary world.
The San Diego County Library is hosting a “Young Adults in the Sun” literature festival at the Encinitas Library on Sunday, Nov. 10 and all ages are invited to attend. The event will feature 18 local authors.
“The program encourages teen readers in particular to experience the library and the books offered within as safe havens where their dreams and ideas can grow and thrive,” said Library Director José Aponte.
People attending the festival can meet local authors, have books signed, enjoy raffles and other activities. Books will be available for purchase as well.
Just don’t expect it to be a formal, rigid literary function.
“It will be more of a social mixer than the usual panel and quiet audience format,” said author Cindy Pon. “All the authors will have official signing times in rotation, but you can still just find them on the floor to chat with and get their autographs.”
Other authors featured at the festival are: Josephine Angelini, Leigh Bardugo, Jennifer Bosworth, Jessica Brody, Debra Driza, Cynthia Hand, Nancy Holder, Kirsten Hubbard, Marie Lu, Sarah Maas, Gretchen McNeil, Shannon Messenger, Tone Milazzo, Andrew Smith, Barrie Summy, Greg VanEekhout, and Kiersten White.
