Escape the mad post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping crush and discover how San Diego spent the holidays in the mid-1800s.
Rancho Guajome Adobe in Vista is revisiting those simpler times with its annual Rancho Christmas celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28.
Children can make corn husk dolls and try their hand at candle dipping and weaving. They can watch as blacksmiths ply their trade and gather round even closer to see how wood carvers and lace makers create their works of art.
The little ones can also decorate their own reindeer goody bag and then hop on board a tractor-drawn wagon for a tour of the park.
The historic adobe itself will be decorated inside and out with more than 100 wreaths, garlands and centerpieces. Visitors can tour the home’s 22 rooms and see all the holiday decorations were made of the natural materials that evoke an old-fashioned holiday.
The celebration will also include live music, Ballet Folklorico performances and Native American storytelling. As the festivities close, visitors can enjoy hot cider as carolers fill the air with holiday music and the light of luminarias cast a soft glow on the park’s grounds.
Tickets for Rancho Christmas are $3 for children ages 4 to 12, and $5 for those who are age 13 and older. Children under three are free and there is no charge for parking.
