County Chairwoman Nora Vargas is encouraging San Diegans who want to help people and families impacted by last week’s devastating storms to participate in a “Day of Service” Wednesday, Jan. 31. Donate your time or goods to help rain and flood survivors.

Now is the time to make a preparedness plan in the wake of the devastating recent storm and rain in the forecast. The County Office of Emergency Services asks people to be ready by creating a plan, building an emergency go-kit and signing up for alerts and information.

After the shock of flood damage to your home, cleanup begins. And sadly, many household items may be destined for the trash. But not all of it. Starting Monday, the County’s household hazardous waste contractor will go out to flood-damaged areas in the unincorporated area to pick up items that are banned from landfills.
