Alpine Senior Safety and Resource Fair Set for Wednesday

The many retirees, senior citizens and veterans who call rural East County home don’t have to travel to San Diego—or even El Cajon— this week for safety, health and financial resources.

The many retirees, senior citizens and veterans who call rural East County home don’t have to travel to San Diego—or even El Cajon— this week for safety, health and financial resources.

The Alpine and East County rural sheriff’s stations and senior advocate Jerry Barber are hosting a Senior Safety and Resource Fair in Alpine on Wednesday. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Boulevard.

The fair will have a wealth of resources for seniors and their families. The Sheriff’s Department will share information about their Senior Volunteer Patrol and the You Are Not Alone program, which provides regular visits and phone calls to older adults who live alone.They will also teach seniors how to avoid becoming victims of I.D. theft and scams.

The fair will also feature dozens of other public and private organizations with booths and exhibits featuring: 

  • Preparing for emergencies
  • Preventing falls
  • Immunizations
  • Community clinics
  • Energy-saving roofing and insulation
  • Improving mobility
  • Nursing facilities
  • VA Benefits
