Child Support Services is holding a Super Saturday event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 13 to giveaway hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies to all children who attend, until supplies run out. The event will be held at the Department of Child Support Services central office, at 3666 Kearny Villa Rd.

August is Child Support Awareness month and Child Support Services wants to celebrate by helping children in the community. The goal of the giveaway is to ease the financial cost associated with returning to school, and to boost a child’s confidence and self-esteem to let them enter the school year successfully. Child Support Services recognizes local families may still be experiencing the financial impact of not only the pandemic, but also the rising costs associated with basic living expenses.

For the special Super Saturday event, services are also available for San Diego’s parents.  Many County partners will be at the event:

  • Live Well on Wheels mobile bus to help with aid eligibility
  • Office of Emergency Services to provide disaster preparedness information
  • County Department of Human Resources to offer job opportunities
  • Animal Services to help families adopt a pet (adoption fees waived in August)
  • Public Defender’s Fresh Start Program to help with criminal record relief

Child Support Services will also be available to share details on programs including High School Diploma support, Parents Invest in Education and Youth with Dreams.

Child Support Services thanks all County agencies participating in this year’s Super Saturday, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for its donations.
