The County opened its 2012-13 budget hearings Monday, a process that is scheduled to conclude June 26 with consideration and action by the Board of Supervisors.

The County introduced a proposed $4.77 billion 2012-13 budget May 8 that called for a nearly 2 percent decrease in spending over the 2011-12 budget.

County Chief financial officer Don Steuer said the decrease was primarily due to the fact the County had completed paying for some large capital improvement projects, including the Las Colinas Detention Facility.

Monday’s public hearing process began with numerous community groups making presentations and seeking portions of Community Enhancement funds, revenue the County earns from local hotel occupancy taxes. Presentations are expected to conclude Tuesday.

The budget hearing process is scheduled to conclude June 20, and to be followed by the Board’s consideration June 26.
