New Quick Business Counter to Cut Wait Times

Customers with simple business to conduct at County building counters are getting their own fast-lane.

The County Department of Planning and Development Services (PDS) opened a new Quick Business Counter Monday that will cut the wait-times for people who have simple transactions such as getting minor residential electric, plumbing or mechanical work, or for items such as replacing water heaters.

Before opening the new Quick Business Counter, customers who had business that could be handled quickly waited in the same lines as applicants who were processing larger or more complicated work that required more time to complete, such as getting permits to build a house or commercial building.

The new Quick Business Counter should cut wait-times for both groups. It will give customers with minor transactions their own counter with faster processing times. Simultaneously, the Quick Business Counter will take people out of the regular building counter lines.

PDS Director Mark Wardlaw said the department’s goal is simple and ongoing — improve customer service.

“This new Quick Business Counter will make it easier for all of our customers,” Wardlaw said. “We help people process thousands of building permits every year, and we’re always looking for ways to improve our systems.”

County building counters are open for business from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for holidays.
