Veterans are recognized for their service to our country in November, and County Animal Services wants to show gratitude to our military this month with a special offer of unconditional friendship and companionship from a shelter dog or cat.
“This is truly a win-win situation for both the pets that deserve a loving home and our service members who will gain a loyal, forever companion,” said Dawn Danielson, director of the Department of Animal Services.
Pets can often have healing effects on veterans and can help them transition back into their civilian lives.
The Department of Animal Services is reducing the adoption fee for cats and dogs by 50 percent through the month of November for veterans and active military.
The adoptions include spaying or neutering, vaccinations, a microchip, and a free health examination. The adoptions are limited to one dog or two cats or kittens per household.
Any veteran who resides in the unincorporated portion of the county or the cities of San Diego, Carlsbad, Santee, Encinitas, Solana Beach or Del Mar and adopts a dog will also receive a free one-year dog license.
All three County shelters are open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The County shelters are located at 5480 Gaines St., San Diego; 2481 Palomar Airport Rd., Carlsbad; and 5821 Sweetwater Rd., Bonita.
