An estimated 200-gallon sewage spill occured this morning at 5000 State Route 75 at Silver Strand.

The spill was blamed on a mechanical failure.  It started at 7:30 a.m. and ended about half an hour later when crews from the City of Coronado Public Services fixed the system. Approximately 150 gallons of the sewage was recovered so an estimated 50 gallons of sewage flowed into a storm drain that leads to the beach at the Crown Cove Aquatic Center in Glorietta Bay.

Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted along the beach at Crown Cove and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
