Child support assistance, free backpacks for children heading back to school, COVID vaccinations — there will be something for nearly everyone this weekend at the County Department of Child Support Services “Super Saturday” event in National City.
The department, which works with local families, government agencies and community resources to support the well-being of children, is holding the event, which is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., August 14 at 401 Mile of Cars Way in National City.
Parents can get information about and contacts to free family law legal assistance, connections to education, work and child care help, and a number of other child support-related subjects including benefits information from the County’s Health and Human Services Agency.
Children will also be able to get a free back-to-school backpack, while supplies last. And everyone aged 12 and up can receive a free COVID-19 vaccination.
“It is hard to overstate just how big a role child support plays in the lives of vulnerable children, families, and communities,” said County Department of Child Support Services Director Jeff Grissom. “During Child Support Awareness Month, our department wants to highlight the holistic approach the County takes in helping families achieve self-sufficiency and thrive.
“We also want to thank our incredible child support professionals, colleagues and partners throughout the County,” Grissom said, “who work tirelessly to provide children and their families the best possible support.”
