It takes a special person to give the gift of time and the County of San Diego is lucky enough to have nearly 5,000 of them. Their contribution is so great, more than $16 million worth of County volunteer services went to the region’s residents this past year. The Board of Supervisors honored these volunteers prior to its regular board meeting on Tuesday.

County, city and state officials celebrated the grand opening today of a new supportive housing community for older adults who have experienced homelessness. Ivy Senior Apartments, located on Mt. Alifan Drive in Clairemont, opened 53 units for low-income, chronically ill seniors who have experienced homelessness.
