The County of San Diego will hold a virtual meeting and an in-person open house next week to give the public the opportunity to learn more about and weigh in on the County’s $9.15 billion recommended budget.

  • The virtual meeting is scheduled to be held on Zoom from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.
  • The open house will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 28, in Chambers in building 5520 at the San Diego County Operations Center on Overland Ave, San Diego.
  • County staff will be available at both events to answer questions. Register, request language or accessibility assistance, and submit public comments on the budget through June 12 at Engage San Diego County.

The County released its new recommended budget on May 18, highlighting investments designed to maintain stability while investing in essential services and responding to growing community needs.

The County Board of Supervisors will also open the budget’s formal public hearing in their meeting at 5 p.m., Monday, June 1 at the County Administration Center at 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego. The Board is expected to adopt a new budget June 25.

What the County Does

The County delivers programs and services that reach nearly all of the county’s 3.3 million residents across the unincorporated areas, the 18 incorporated cities and 18 federally recognized tribes.

In unincorporated communities, County government provides day-to-day services that a city government typically provides like law enforcement, roads, building permits, animal services, parks and libraries. Some cities also contract with the County for these services.

Regionwide, the County also oversees emergency preparedness, criminal prosecution and detention, food and financial assistance programs, behavioral health services, public health programs, restaurant inspections, elections and beach water monitoring.
