Kick Back at Free Concerts at the Waterfront Park

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Splashing fountains, green lawns, bay breezes and live music. Start your Labor Day weekend off right and head to the Waterfront Park downtown for a series of free concerts.

The fun begins 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29 with the Jesse Beason Band. Bring the kids, a picnic, and a blanket. Towels, too, if your kids just can’t resist those sprays of water from the fountain!

The four concerts slated for Saturday begin at 4 p.m. All the musicians both days are local so you’ll be supporting San Diego music.

Here’s the complete list:

Friday, Aug. 29, Sounds of Summer Concert (County Parks and Downtown San Diego Partnership)

  • The Jesse Beason Band

        5 – 7 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 30, Waterfront Live Concert

  • Bryan Bangerter
  • Veronica May
  • The Tilt
  • Playfight

        4 – 7 p.m.

Saturday, you can make a day of it and come out early to let the little ones splash in the water all day. The jets are turned on at 10 a.m. and run until 10 p.m. Kids can also run around in the giant playground nearby or the expansive lawns. Rent a 10-by-10-foot canopy for $15 and you should be all set.

Consider taking public transportation as weekend events downtown will see parking spots fill up quickly.  The underground parking garage at the Waterfront Park will be open but spaces are limited and will cost $20 during the Labor Day weekend. The nearest trolley stop, County Center/Little Italy, is located one block from the park.
