Spring Valley Gym Holding Three-On-Three Tourney

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Weekend hoopsters have through Saturday to sign up to compete in a three-on-three basketball tournament scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5 at the Spring Valley Gymnasium, located at 838 Kempton St.

The one-day event for men — the first-ever for the County gymnasium — will also feature a slam dunk contest and a 3-point shooting contest for those who take part in the tournament.

Participants must be 18 or older. Registration costs are $80 per team for the tournament, which also covers the cost for team members who want to take part in the slam dunk and/or three point shooting contests. Checks should be made payable to the County of San Diego. Each team is allowed a maximum of five players.

Teams will compete in a minimum of four games each and the winning team will win their choice of basketball jerseys or a discount off the Spring Valley Gymnasium’s adult basketball leagues fees.

Recreation Supervisor Brandon Schroeder said the County is putting on the event with the help of San Diego State University students, nicknamed the “Aztec Baller Association,” who are studying recreation and tourism management. Schroeder said the students will earn college credits while the gymnasium will get a chance to show itself off to members of the public who may not have already discovered the gym’s indoor basketball facilities.

The three-on-three event is expected to end at about 4 p.m. All participants will be required to sign a release of liability form on the day of the event.

Men who would like to register can fill out the registration form found on this flier, or contact Schroeder at 619-667-6833 or Brandon.schroeder@sdcounty.ca.gov. Registration will be considered complete upon payment.
