Parks and Rec

Coming soon to a theater near you…

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As you settle into your seat and juggle your popcorn and your soda, keep your eyes on the giant, silver screen.

Along with reminders to turn off your cell phone, and throw your trash away in the nearby ‘receptacles’, you’ll see a reminder of another sort; how to enjoy the outdoors at our County parks.

The sneak peek of sorts is a one-minute message from County Parks and Recreation and it takes you back to all the fun, laughter and memories that can be created at the 100 parks right in our backyard. Eight of them are camping parks. Remember making s’ mores at the campfire?

While school might be back in session, you and your family can still get away from it all. In fact, you’ll have an easier time of it, because camping reservations are easier to get this time of year. Miss the crowds and enjoy a quick weekend getaway.  Thanks to our wonderful weather, most County parks are open year round. The two that close down in the summer because of the desert heat will reopen September 1. So now is the time to see what Agua Caliente and Vallecito County Parks have to offer and at more comfortable temperatures!

This is the first time County Parks and Recreation has ever put together a message like this for local movie theaters. The video will make its debut in mid-September at four AMC movie theaters in the County, ranging from Escondido to Otay Ranch. They are among the largest and most popular theaters in the region. Cox Communications also plans to run the video starting October 1.

“We offer the best value for camping facilities in the County,” said Parks and Recreation Director Brian Albright. “But more importantly, everyone needs a chance to reconnect with nature and the people they love. Camping allows you to get away from it all, family fun at its finest.”

All the County camping facilities are RV and tent friendly and offer either partial or full hook-ups. Some parks feature cabins. You can take a virtual tour of the campsite locations and book your camping reservations online. You can also call (858) 565-3600 to book reservations.

Sound like a great idea? You might want to check it out sooner rather than later. Remember, all those folks at the movie theater. Make your marshmallow roasting reservations now before they nab your camping spot!
